Change Your World Tour

Change Your World Alberta Youth Leadership Tour 2013 - Nicaragua

ACGC invites you to nominate outstanding and engaged youth, involved in climate and social justice issues, to participate in the Change Your World: Alberta Youth Leadership Tour to Nicaragua! This is an all-expenses paid tour. Change Your World is an opportunity for five Alberta youth to visit and connect with Alberta international development organizations working in Nicaragua. The tour will take place July 2013.

Youth who are presently in grades 9-12 are eligible for nomination. You may nominate more than one person. Youth will be accompanied to Nicaragua by experienced staff from the Change for Children Association and the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC). The focus of this tour will be on the concepts of climate change and climate justice. In Nicaragua, youth will meet with staff and volunteers from local organizations, as well as community members who have been impacted by international development efforts. Through this experience youth will learn more about the work being done in partnership with Albertan non-governmental organizations and their international colleagues, and how they can continue to be involved in international development, locally and globally.
Upon their return, the selected youth will participate in a speaking tour across Alberta, sharing their experiences and perceptions through a presentation and video they will create during their time in Nicaragua. This tour will be shared with students and community organizations across Alberta throughout the fall of 2013.

This is a great opportunity to acknowledge hard work and dedication to social justice, or to provide extra encouragement for a youth that carries great potential in the area of global citizenship.

Deadline for submissions is Thursday, April 25, 2013.

Change Your World Alberta Youth Leadership Tour 2010 - Ethiopia

In 2010, Canadian Humanitarian hosted this opportunity for the youth to engage with projects on the ground in Ethiopia during July 2010. Students had the opportunity to meet with staff and volunteers as well as community members who have been impacted by the projects. The 2010 Change Your World youth created a short video and presentation of their experience upon returning home to Alberta (see below). With this presentation the youth shared what they learned about international development work, both locally and globally, with a diverse population in Alberta.
